Best Time to Visit Udawalawe National Park

Best overall season is February to June, This is the dry season when animals congregate near water sources, increasing your chances of spotting leopards, elephants, and other wildlife. The park's vegetation is also less dense, improving visibility. The weather warm and dry, with minimal rain.
September to December - The park is lush and green, with rejuvenated landscapes. It’s also a quieter time with fewer tourists, ideal for those seeking solitude. But rain may limit safari experiences, and some areas of the park may be inaccessible.

How to reach Udawalawe National Park from Colombo

Car

The full journey takes only approximately 3 hr 40 min (237 km) via Southern Expy/E01, but it depends on road traffic conditions.

Bus

You can take a bus from the Colombo central bus stand, Kadawatha bus stand or Makumbara Bus Stand to Embilipitiya, Get off at Embilipitiya. From there you have to take a taxi, tuk-tuk to Udawalawe park.

Colombo - Embilipitiya (Bus No EX01 - via Southern expressway) and the journey may take around 5 - 6 hr. From there you have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Udawalawe park.

Colombo - Embilipitiya (Bus No 03) and the journey may take around 5 to 6 hours. Get off at Embilipitiya. From there you have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Udawalawe park.

Colombo - Ratnapura or Badulla (Bus No 99) Get off at Ratnapura. From Ratnapura, transfer to a bus heading to Embilipitiya. and the journey may take around 6 to 7 hours. From there you have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Udawalawe park.

Train

Take a train to Beliatta, then transfer to a bus heading to Embilipitiya or take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Udawalawe park. Journey may take around 5 to 6 hours.
