How to reach Arugam Bay beach from Colombo

Car

The full journey takes approximately 6 hr 24 min (409 km) via Southern expressway, but it depends on road traffic conditions.

Bus

You can take a bus from the Colombo central bus stand or Colombo 771 Maradana Rd to Arugam Bay. From there you have to take a taxi, tuk-tuk or coastal bus to Arugam Bay beach.

Colombo - Pottuvil (Bus No 98/1) and the journey may take around 8 to 10 hours. From there you have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Arugam Bay beach.

A direct air-conditioned buses via Pottuvil Panama Rd departs daily from Maradana Zahira College, located opposite the Maradana Train Station. and the journey may take around 8 to 10 hours.

Train

You can take a train from the Colombo Fort railway station to Batticaloa, and the journey may take around 7 to 9 hours. It's recommended to check the train schedule and book tickets, especially during peak times. From there you have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Arugam Bay beach.
