Best Time to Visit Yala National Park

Best overall season is February to June, This is the dry season when animals congregate near water sources, increasing your chances of spotting leopards, elephants, and other wildlife. The park's vegetation is also less dense, improving visibility. The weather warm and dry, with minimal rain.
September to December - The park is lush and green, with rejuvenated landscapes. It’s also a quieter time with fewer tourists, ideal for those seeking solitude. But rain may limit safari experiences, and some areas of the park may be inaccessible.

How to reach Yala National Park from Colombo

Car

The full journey takes only approximately 3 hr 45 min (265 km) via Southern Expy/E01, but it depends on road traffic conditions.

Bus

You can take a bus from the Colombo central bus stand, Kadawatha bus stand or Makumbara Bus Stand to Kataragama, Get off at Tissa. From there you have to take a taxi, tuk-tuk to Yala park.

Colombo - Kataragama (Bus No EX01 - via Southern expressway) and the journey may take around 4 - 5 hr. From there you have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Yala park.

Colombo - Kataragama (Bus No 32 via Galle road) and the journey may take around 6 to 7 hours. Get off at Tissa. From there you have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Yala park.

Train

Take a train to Matara, then transfer to a bus heading to Tissamaharama or Kataragama. But this route takes longer
